Naturally, being that I am an artist, one may assume safely that I have other creative pursuits beyond drawing and writing. I LOVE making costumes! I don't have a ton of money or time to devote to it, but I love to make these outfits of beloved characters or personalities. I'm lucky to have a partner who is as passionate about it as I am. Vanessa is also super creative and resourceful. The results speak for themselves.
This year we teamed up for a Masters of the Universe duo: Skeletor and Sorceress. If you've been following my blog, you'll know that I've been in a world of He-Man and MOTU all month long. No surprise, then, that it manifested with the two of us pulling off these costumes in, like, TWO WEEKS.
I'll post a brief how-to, or how-I-did-it soon, but Vanessa's was a marathon effort with lovely results. First off: the headdress. It is felt for the front, and chain mail for the rest. If you don't know her, she makes chain mail and mail jewelry for a living, and it's beautiful work. The scales took about 20 hours to complete, and she intends on upgrading this outfit significantly. I was impressed, and I know we made an impression walking in to the backyard party Saturday night.
We both suffer from biting off more than we can/should chew, but that's how inspiration works sometimes. When the iron is hot, you STRIKE!
