Princess of Power inna house, y'all.
She-Ra was an instance in my life where I bought in to the societal expectations of toys for boys and toys for girls. Despite my love of Hordak, I didn't watch She-Ra because she seemed so aimed toward girls, and the story just looked like "lady He-Man." Boring.
Drawing MOTU characters all this October, and revisiting the cartoons with my girlfriend, we found that while She-Ra did spring from He-Man's world, it quickly became all her own. The formula is there, but Alurra is out in the field standing along side strong, brave men, and shattering gender expectations as she leads a rebellion agains oppression. By the honor of Greyskull.
